Welcome to the Monkey House by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

I am now reading my third Kurt Vonnegut Jr. book, Welcome to the Monkey House. This book is different yet again from all the other books I have read so far by this author. This is a collection of short stories that he wrote many yeas ago, put into a book. So far I have read seven of his short stories, each one has its own unique plot in its own special world, unheard of by mankind. I really enjoy the writings of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and i cant wait to read more of the short stories and even more of his books.

Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. 2

I have never enjoyed a book as much as I enjoy this one. I am left speechless after I read chapter after chapter. I love the writings of Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and I believe this is one of his best works yet. I like the pictures and I enjoy the story even more. The picture is this book are funny and very unexpected. The story is one of the greatest stories I have ever read. I always look forward to reading this book and hope I can find more like it. I like to read more and more about all of the characters in the book. They each have there own individual personalities. The characters are very interesting, in the way that they all have problems and Vonnegut likes to show that. It seems to be the point of this book. Exploiting all of the problems in the human race. I still wonder if the character, Kilgore Trout, represents Vonnegut. Trout is a book write who is still undiscovered and he writes crazy stories. It is strange. Very strange.

Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut

I have already read one book by Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughter House 5, and i loved it. I really enjoy reading his books. In this book, I noticed that he brings back a familiar character, Kilgore Trout, but instead of being a weird side character, he is now the main character. I also enjoy looking at all of the picture Vonnegut drew in his book to help illustrate his point. I really like this book so far and look forward to reading it in the near future.

Slaughter-House Five bu Kurt Vonnegut

I have fallen in love with this book. It gives insight on all the negatives of war, and as the little bird said, "Poo-tee-weet", only showing that there is nothing good to say about war. Each paragraph of this book are different moments of time. According to the main character, Billy Pilgrim, who by the way is also the narrator, all of life is based on time, but in the fourth dimension, according to the Tralfamadorians or aliens, is where time flows continuously, repeatedly, and backwards, all at the same time. The Tralfamadorians also speak ofwhat we know as free will. To them this idea does not exist but it is a force that counters our free will when we want to getsomething done.
One othe the true themes of this book is death. Death is in every point in this book and is even announed by when Pilgrim says, "So it goes", to all mentions, thus making them equal. This pointsout howinevitable death is but only the Tralfamadorians are theonly ones who can make it sound good, "You can die at any moment, but you are aliove for allother moments of your life".

First Quarter Look Back

After reading over my blogs for the first quarter I realized that i really enjoy books, even if it takes me a while to read them. I personally like reading adventure books about outlandish place and people but for the first quarter, to get them out of the way, I read books that I really do enjoy reading that much but interest me in a way. Now-a-days i don't get to read as much as I used to because I am always studying and doing my school work, but as the day goes on I find myself reading a little bit each day. I have started to look at the bigger picture of the books i read and that is a good improvement. My reading goal for this next quarter is to read at least three (3) books. I really want to get back into reading again and I hope this goal helps.

Kite Runner 2 by Khaled Hosseini

After finishing the next part of the book, going to Pakistan, the once sweet and kind beginning of the book with some drama can not compare with the past 2 chapters. Now that he is 18 years old the magnitude of violence has increased tremendously. We discover new character traits and morals buried deep within old and even new characters. When Baba almost chokes Karim to death because the truck is not coming or when Kamal's father takes Karim's gun and kills himself because his son is dying is totally unexpected. The out bust of violence by Baba is only backed up by his protective and almost saint-like characteristics. I am excited to read more and discover what will happen next when they move to America.

The Mole People by Jenifer Toth 4

Just finished the book and let me tell you it was excellent! After reading thought the stories of numerous homeless underground people I feel as if I am connected to them and I understand their pain and suffering, but yet again it is not pain they always feel, for example, in Bernard's community most of the people were happy because Bernard provided food and fire for them to relax after a long day. In the epilogue of the book Toth reveals the to the reader what the people she had talked to three months before the book was published. She also tells us about nightmares she has from being in the tunnels and she can't compare to the homeless in the tunnels due to her lack of understand on how they can live down there. The Mole People was an excellent book and I recommend it to any reader who wants and excellent story and an adventure into the pits of New York City.

The Mole Poeple by Jennifer Toth 3

Jennifer Toth is afraid of no man. In the past few chapters she has gotten up close and personal with some of the underground homeless living in an are called Bernard's tunnel. Here, in the tunnel, they have a place to rest and get something to eat and drink but they can also go there to rehabilitate and try to ween themselves off of drugs and alcohol. As this perticular chapter she continues to travels deeper into the South, and more hostile, end of the tunnel where drug addicts can be found in every hole and you are just about as asafe as the next guy. I admire Toth's braveness and courage to go and be among the homeless, dangerous or not. The insight she provides is stupendous.

The Mole People by Jennifer Toth 2

By now I can see and understand whatthisbookis about and how Toth approaches discovering what she has. She does not onlytalk to people living underground, she also interviews cops and local taxi drivers to see their side of the story. Everybody has different opinionsabout the case and I am starting to form one too. The people living underground might not have the "right" to be there but it is what they call home. They are not bothering anybody by being there and I do not see how they can effect the upper world when they are so depp, deep down. With the more people she interviews, the more perspectives you get about the "Life in the Tunnels beneath New york City."

The Mole Poeple by Jennifer Toth

So far, The Mole People has been an excellent insight on the underground world that lies beneath New York City. Toth gets up close and personal with the residentsof differt undergroundf cities, telling the stories of veterans and people just moving into this new world. Toth digs down deep to uncover the mysteries behind each person. I just read about a man named Mac who has never left the tunnel and him and his group are collecting guns to fight off other rival gangs. He also needs body guards to protect him from danger. This book is a great read and I am only just starting it and can't wait to read more.

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller

During WW2 a young pilot and his squadron are sent to a random island where they have to endure dangerous missions and risk their lives every day. But this young pilot, Yossarian, is no ordinary pilot. Yossarian is smart but insanity soon gets to him as he finds out the only way to leave the island is to complete a certain number of missions but as time goes on the number gets higher and higher. They are put in life threatening situations and believe there is someone that always wants to kill them. As the battles rage on numerous sub-plots emerge and just make the nightmare of a life they are living only worse. The war gets to Yossarian's head and he goes mad only to realize that the only way to survive is to abandon the army, and the rules of Catch-22. This is an excellent book and gives you a new perspective on how you view the true underbelly of the world.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

Just returned the book to the library, couldn't stop crying. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was a witty and excellent insight on what goes on in the far and distant reaches of space and telling us the "real" meaning of life, 42. Arthur is just your regular British man, but his best friend, Ford Perfect, is not. As the Earth is about to be demolished for an intergalactic highway, Ford takes Arthur onto one of the ships and this starts their hitchhiking adventure around the galaxy to complete the greatest book ever thought up, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. This book is a great read and I recommend it to all readers, human or not.
